SAN DIEGO – May 3, 2017 – Interpreta, Inc., an analytics company that intelligently synchronizes healthcare, announced that its co-founder and president, Raghu Sugavanam, was honored with a 2017 Alumni Achievement Award from the School of Engineering & Applied Science at Washington University in St. Louis. Sugavanam, and his wife, Madhumathy Sugavanam, also established a scholarship to support students in their pursuit of higher education in engineering.
One of only a handful of distinguished alumni recognized annually, Sugavanam was honored by Washington University Engineering for re-engineering healthcare at an event held at the Saint Louis Art Museum.
“Raghu has not only the vision and skills to launch successful companies, but he also maintains strong technical expertise and is able to advance the engineering challenges of whatever venture he develops,” says Aaron Bobick, Dean of the School of Engineering & Applied Science at Washington University in St. Louis. “We are pleased to honor such a prestigious alumnus who continues to have a remarkable career.”
With more than 25 years in the software industry, Sugavanam has managed successful deployment of analytics and database solutions for Fortune 1000 companies in healthcare, technology and other industries. In 2014, he co-founded San Diego-based Interpreta to identify high-risk patients and offer precision care with continuous interpretation of clinical and genomic data. Most clinical analyses today are presented as a one-time report that can quickly become obsolete. Interpreta’s technology differentiates itself by running continuously to identify and anticipate future actions in real-time, similar to a GPS navigator, leveraging DNA in its reasoning as well as all other clinical context.
Prior to Interpreta, Sugavanam was the founder, chief technology officer, and principal architect at Anvita, a clinical analytics company acquired by Humana in 2011. He was also founder and president of Mercantile Software Systems, a high-performance database system company acquired by Harte Hanks in 1997.
As a charter member of The Indus Entrepreneurs Global, Sugavanam mentors entrepreneurs from across the world. He is also a loyal member of Washington University’s San Diego Campaign Committee, and he and his wife, Madhumathy, are Eliot Society Benefactors, supporting an annual engineering scholarship named after them.
Sugavanam earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, a master’s degree in chemical engineering from Washington University in 1978, and a master’s degree in computer science from Rutgers University.

I have enjoyed the wonderful opportunities and success this great country has provided me, and I look forward to continuing to pay it forward to the engineering community,” says Sugavanam.
